Ravichandran Ashwin‘s connection with Chennai Super Kings goes a long way back. In fact, it was his performance for Chennai Super Kings that made him a household name in the country before he made his India debut.  Ashwin made his debut for the Super Kings in 2009 and helped them win the IPL title in 2010 and 2011.

He stayed with the team till 2015 before the team was suspended for a couple of years. When the suspension ended in 2018, many thought that the Super Kings will buy Ashwin in the auction. However, the Chennai-based outfit sprung a big surprise by signing the likes of Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir although they had signed back quite a number of their former players. Kings XI Punjab had then signed Ashwin. And it looks like Ashwin does not have the same feelings for Super Kings anymore as he posted a cheeky tweet after their loss against Mumbai Indians in the final.

Mumbai Indians beat the Super Kings by 1 run to become the most successful team in the history of the league. Chasing 150, Chennai Super Kings ended up on 148 for 7. The Super Kings were comfortably placed at 70 for 1 in the tenth over before losing Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni for just 12 runs. Shane Watson did manage to keep Super Kings in contention with a fighting fifty but departed on the fourth ball of the 20th over when his team needed just 4 from three runs. Lasith Malinga then defended the three runs to power Mumbai to a monumental win.

Earlier in the game, Mumbai Indians scored 149 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. Rohit Sharma’s decision to bat first looked spot on at the start when Quinton de Kock hit Deepak Chahar for three sixes in the third over to set the tone. But the Super Kings struck quickly to remove de Kock and Rohit inside powerplay as Mumbai finished the first six overs on 45 for 2. But some handy knocks from the likes of Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard took Mumbai to a challenging total.

And after the game ended, Ashwin took to Twitter to post a tweet that was perhaps aimed to tease the Super Kings and their fans as he tweeted:

“Ohhhhh?☺️ great game of cricket. Well done to @mipaltan and @ImRo45. Bad luck to @ChennaiIPL and @msdhoni #IPL19”

The fans were quick to realise the true motive of the tweet and were quick to give it back to Ashwin.
