Veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has revealed wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik as his childhood inspiration. Karthik is currently in England with the India squad for the onging ICC World Cup 2019. Although he has not played a game yet, Karthik remains an important customer in that line-up.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who is not a part of the limited overs setup, is having a delightful time with his family. He appeared for the Kings XI Punjab last during the recently concluded IPL. He had a good IPL despite his team failing to make it to the playoffs. Ashwin will fly to England to ply his trade in the County Championship to prepare for the Test series against West Indies days after the World Cup.
The off-spinner recently appeared in a chat show named Breakfast With Champions. During the conversation with the host, Ravichandran Ashwin revealed Dinesh Karthik as his childhood inspiration. Karthik and Ashwin have played a lot of cricket together in the domestic circuit for Tamil Nadu. He also added that the wicket-keeper batsman was a rockstar in Tamil Nadu’s cricketing circuit.
“Dinesh (Karthik) is an inspiration for me. A lot of people don’t know this because he was the rockstar. Everybody with the Tamil Nadu cricketing circuit knew that Dinesh Karthik was going to play for India,” Ashwin said.
Furthermore, Ravichandran Ashwin revealed that he believed that Dinesh Karthik would be the next Sachin Tendulkar. He also said that he used to travel a lot with his father to see Karthik smash bowlers in age group crickets. Karthik is a legend in Tamil Nadu’s domestic cricket scoring tons of runs for them consistently over the years.
“I believed he could be the next Sachin Tendulkar. That’s how I saw Dinesh. I used to go…Take my father and go and see Dinesh Karthik play those under-19 and under-17 games. And he just used to wow people. That factor where he used to steam roll bowler and just smash them,” Ashwin concluded.
