India’s talisman off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin claimed five wickets in the County Division One in Taunton. Ashwin scalped five wickets for 59 runs for Nottinghampshire against Somerset. Hence, Ashwin’s spell helped Nottinghampshire skittle out Somerset for a paltry score of 169 runs in the second innings.

Somerset posted a good score of 326 runs in the first innings after their captain Tom Abell won the toss and decided to bat first. Somerset’s wicketkeeper batsman Steven Davies scored a good knock of 74 runs with the help of 11 fours. In fact, Ravichandran Ashwin also took three wickets in the first innings and gave away 93 runs in the 34.3 overs he bowled.

Ashwin’s spell went in vain.
However, Nottinghampshire were bundled out for 241 runs in their first essay and thus they conceded a lead of 85 runs. Jake Libby scored 77 whereas Chris Nash retired out after scoring a fifty.
Subsequently, Somerset scored 169 runs after Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali scored a good knock of 65 runs in the second innings. Liam Patterson-White also took five wickets for Nottinghampshire. However, Nottinghampshire were dismissed for 122 runs and hence Somerset won by a margin of 132 runs.

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin scored 23 runs in the first dig whereas he scored 41 runs in the second essay in his second County Match.

Ajinkya Rahane failed.
After this win, Somerset has strengthen its position at the top of the points table with seven wins from nine matches. However, Nottinghampshire is at the bottom of the points table as they have lost six matches out of the nine games they have played.

On the other hand, Hampshire’s overseas batsman and India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane could not get going. Rahane scored four runs in the first innings against Warwickshire. Furthermore, the stylish batsman failed to deliver the goods in the second dig as he only scored three runs. He was plumbed in front of the wickets by Oliver Hannon-Dalby.
