India’s ace spinner in Test cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin, is all set to replace his partner in crime, Ravindra Jadeja in the Irani Trophy. The Saurashtra all-rounder suffered a side strain and had been prescribed to take rest.
The champions of this season, Vidarbha, is all set to clash against Rest of India team for the Paytm Z R Irani Cup. The fixture is scheduled to take place from March 14 to March 18 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
Ravi Ashwin missed out on the recently held Paytm D B Deodhar Trophy. Like Jadeja, Ashwin was also adviced a rest for one. It was announced on BCCI’s website that Ashwin is fit to play.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named R Ashwin as the replacement for injured Ravindra Jadeja in the Rest of India squad for the Paytm Z R Irani Cup. Mr. Jadeja suffered a side strain and has been adviced rest,” released BCCI on their website.
“Mr. Ashwin missed the recently concluded Paytm Prof D B Deodhar Trophy as he was advised a week’s rest. He has now recovered and is declared fit to play,” further added BCCI.
Here’s the Rest of India squad:
Karun Nair (Captain), Prithvi Shaw, Abhimanyu Easwaran. R Samarth, Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari. KS Bharat (WK), R Ashwin, Jayant Yadav, Shahbaz Nadeem, Anmolpreet Singh. Siddarth Kaul, Ankit Rajpoot, Navdeep Saini, Atit Sheth
Ravindra Jadeja has remained wicketless for more than one year now in List-A cricket. Perhaps, this is the reason for his axe from the limited overs set up in the Indian team.
Both Ashwin and Jadeja lost their places in the limited overs format to the wrist spinning duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. With the breakthrough series for the duo in South Africa, things appear bleak for Ash and Jaddu for World Cup.
