India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja gave his gratitude to skipper Virat Kohli for backing him in the playing XI. Jadeja was able to stand tall to his selection for the ongoing first Test match against West Indies as he scored a vital knock of 58 runs. The visitors were in a spot of bother as they were 207-7 and needed some more runs to reach a competitive score.

Subsequently, Jadeja added a crucial alliance of 60 runs with Ishant Sharma. The lanky fast bowler also gave good support as he scored 19 runs. The southpaw batsman showed the resistance and once again proved his mettle while batting down the order.

Jadeja once again proved his worth.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli has always been under the scanner for his team selection. Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar was baffled with the exclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin who has a sublime record against West Indies. Furthermore, Sourav Ganguly wanted Rohit Sharma to be in the final XI.

“Obviously you feel good when the skipper believes in you, thinks of you as the main player. Luckily, I have been able to repay the faith by performing well,” said Jadeja told reporters.

The left-hander scored six fours and one six in his fine knock of 58 runs to take the tourists to a respectable score of 297. Furthermore, the left-arm spinner scalped one wicket.

“When I was batting out there in the middle, I just looked to build a partnership. I was focussing to play with the tailenders. I was just worried about my game, I was trying to give my best out on the park,” Jadeja added.

India has put their noses in front as West Indies are struggling at 189-8 and the hosts are still in arrears by 108 runs. Ishant Sharma was the wrecker in chief of the hosts as the tall fast bowler scalped a five-wicket haul. Furthermore, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami took one wicket each.

The visitors will look to further tighten their grip on the match on the third day of the Test match.
