Studies and sports don’t always go hand in hand and not many would disagree with this. An individual needs to sacrifice a lot in order to make it big in the game and on most of the occasions, education takes the back seat. Well, taking a look at Indian cricket star’s education background will make the picture very clear.
Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who is the most decorated batsman in the history of the game, failed his 10th class exams and decided against taking the exam after that. Well, the decision paid off as he concentrated fully on his batting and went on to become one of the all-time greats.

But at the same time, there are some exceptions. The likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Javagal Srinath, Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman managed do well in both sports as well as academics. Srinath, Ashwin and Kumble have a bachelor’s degree in engineering while Laxman was pursuing MBBS before deciding to focus only on cricket.
How did MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli fare as students:
MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are two of the main names in Indian cricket at present. The former and current India captains are the idols of many and have inspired hundreds to take cricket. However, one can say that they would not inspire many with their grades in school.
In 2018, MS Dhoni, while visiting his former teammate Virender Sehwag’s school, had revealed the marks he got in his 10th and 12th board exams. The legendary wicketkeeper-batsman a score of 56 percent in 12th and 66 in 10th.

Just like MS Dhoni, Kohli was not a studious student either and he himself revealed that. While he did not reveal the exact score he got in class ten, he gave an idea by saying that he used to get 3 out of 100 in mathematics.
“So in Math, we used to have exams and the maximum marks we could get in 100, right. I used to get 3, I was that good. And I did not understand, why someone would even want to learn math. I could not understand the complications behind it, I have never used those formulas in life,” Virat had said in 2019 during a chat show ‘In Depth With Graham Bensinger’.
“I just wanted to get through my 10th Grade exam because they used to happen at a state level and after that you could choose if you wanted to continue with math or not. I’m telling you, have never worked that hard in cricket the way I did to pass in that exam,” he added.
