Even before the start of the huge clash against Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings suffered a big blow with their skipper MS Dhoni not being in the playing eleven. With 8 wins from 11 games, the Super Kings have all but sealed their playoff spot. However, they would be keen to beat their bitter rivals Mumbai especially after losing already to them this season. A win in this game will also secure Super Kings’ passage to the final.

However, they now face a herculean task against the formidable Mumbai Indians. Missing Dhoni is a big blow for them. The Super Kings are heavily relying on Dhoni this season. Despite being a middle-order batsman, Dhoni is the leading run-scorer for them which proves just how much the team needs its skipper. Dhoni has so far scored 314 runs in 10 games at an average of over 104.

Speaking at the toss, stand-in skipper Suresh Raina revealed the reason behind Dhoni’s absence. The left-handed batsman said that Dhoni as well Ravindra Jadeja are missing the game due to fever.

“We will bowl first, wicket still looks the same. I think dew will be the factor. MS and Jaddu are not well, they have fever and they will miss today’s game. We have three changes: MS, Jaddu and one more player is not playing (Faf).Dhruv Shorey, Murali Vijay and Santner comes in,” said Raina.

The rest, nonetheless, was much-needed for Dhoni who has struggled with his back this season. Dhoni, in fact, had to miss the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Super Kings batting coach Mike Hussey recently said that the skipper is not at all willing to take rest despite the troubled back.

“Well, you would have to ask Dhoni that question. I think what I know about him is that he doesn’t want to miss any matches.

“He loves playing for CSK, this place is very close to his heart and he wants to play and do well and wants to see the team have success. So trying to get him to have rest is very difficult,” Hussey told reporters on Thursday.

Super Kings will be hoping that their skipper regains his fitness as the playoffs are just a handful of days away.
