The Delhi Capitals has received praises from plenty of plaudits for the depth in their squad, and head coach Ricky Ponting cited the presence of competition too. Not only has Delhi Capitals received appreciations for their smart pickings but also have been tipped to lift their maiden IPL trophy this year. Ricky Ponting, who has served as the coach of Mumbai Indians as well, has triggered progress with Delhi too.
Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Capitals reached the playoffs last year for the first time since 2012. The bedrock of their reasonably successful campaign was Iyer’s smart and shrewd captaincy, their openers’ success, and their pace battery for which the leader was Kagiso Rabada. They lost to the Chennai Super Kings in the playoffs; however, managed to garner accolades for their fighting spirit.
Ahead of the forthcoming edition, Delhi Capitals has made some handy purchases and seem to have all their bases covered. The franchise opted for the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey, Shimron Hetmyer, Anrich Nortje, and Daniel Sams while retaining their core. They also have the incoming duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin, whose experience would prove valuable in the UAE.
“Counting down the days until we start our season on Sunday” : Ricky Ponting
Head coach Ricky Ponting took to his official Twitter handle and is counting the days till they commence their campaign. Ponting lauded the players for their approach to training and underlined that the competition for spots is getting challenging. And Ricky Ponting desires that as a coach.
Counting down the days until we start our season on Sunday. The boys have been outstanding with their training and preparation and competition for spots in the starting eleven is certainly hot. Exactly what you want as a coach. @delhicapitals pic.twitter.com/4PHBDTAA3p
