Ricky Ponting Tips Pakistan's Babar Azam To Become World-Class Batter

Legendary Australian batsman Ricky Ponting in a recent Q&A session with his fans, has lavished praise on Pakistan batting sensation Babar Azam. For some time now, the Pakistani cricket team has lacked a batsman who can anchor the innings and is reliable in tough situations.

However, ever since Azam made his debut in 2015, he has gone from strength to strength adding some much-needed stability to the wobbly batting lineup of Pakistan.

In his 137 international caps so far, Babar has 15 centuries to his name, and he boasts a healthy average of over 50 in the limited-overs format.

The 25-year-old is slowly making his presence felt in Test cricket as well, highlighting his credentials as Pakistan’s Mr. consistent.

Babar was hands down the best batsman for Pakistan in the Test series versus Australia in 2019. While the visitors were whitewashed 2-0 by the Aussies, Babar scored a century in the first Test in Brisbane and followed it up with another crucial knock of 97 runs in the second Test.

In a Pakistani side that struggled in all departments, Babar was the lone beacon of hope, as he finished the series as the highest run-scorer for his team.

Ricky Ponting tips Babar Azam to become ‘one of the best batsmen in the world’:

Due to his brilliant performances over the past couple of series, Azam received plaudits from former Australian skipper Ponting. When asked to comment on the Azam’s heroics against the Aussies, Ponting had some kind words for the right-handed batsman.

He wrote, “I thought Babar was extremely impressive. Looks to have a lot of class and could well become one of the best batsmen in the world.”

Babar would really feel proud upon hearing such bold claims coming from a legendary batsman such as Ponting.

Right now, the Pakistani batsman is helping his team, fend off the challenge from Bangladesh, at home. Ponting meanwhile is currently tied to duties at the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL).
