Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is one of the commentators in the ongoing day and night Test between India and Australia. The much-anticipated four-match Test series kicked off on Thursday in Adelaide with a pink-ball affair as India chose to bat first after winning the toss. When it comes to predicting the result of the high-voltage series, Ricky Ponting chose the hosts to win it by 2-1.

India and Australia are even so far in six white-ball games in the ongoing rubber. Australia beat India by 2-1 in the three-match ODI series while the visitors hit back by winning the T20 series with the same scoreline. Virat Kohli’s men became the first Indian team to win a Test series in Australia back in 2018-19. However, Tim Paine’s side would be eager to regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy this time as they have their premier batsman Steve Smith back in the side.

India, who chose to bat first after winning the toss, were off to a shaky start as they lost Prithvi Shaw in the second ball of the innings for a duck. Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara stabilised the innings after that before Pat Cummins removed the former. Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli stitched a 68-run stand before Nathan Lyon broke Pujara’s vigil of 160 deliveries for 43 runs. At present, captain Kohli and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane appear to put the visitors in a position of strength.

Ricky Ponting took to his official Twitter handle and stated he couldn’t wait to commentate with Sunil Gavaskar and is excited to be back in the ground in ten months. The Tasmanian added his prediction of Australia winning the rubber by 2-1.
