Tamil Nadu and Kolkata Knight Riders mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has received his maiden India call-up for the upcoming T20I tour of Australia. The spinner has earned the call-up just a couple of days after claiming a five-fer against Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2020.

Chakravarthy will be joined by Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan in the T20I side. Both the opening batsmen have made it to the squad after their scintillating performance in the ongoing IPL. Agarwal has scored one century in the tournament so far while Dhawan has two tons to his name.

In a big surprise, Rishabh Pant has lost his place in the India T20I side after a series of poor performances in international cricket. His indifferent campaign in the ongoing IPL has not helped his cause either. KL Rahul is set to keep the wickets in Australia while Sanju Samson is another option.

Deepak Chahar and Hardik Pandya, who missed India’s last T20 assignment in New Zealand, have reclaimed their places. On the other hand, allrounder Shivam Dube and spinner Kuldeep Yadav have been dropped.

The T20I series will start from December 4 at the Manuka Oval. Thereafter, the teams will return to Sydney for the remaining two T20Is. Prior to the T20Is, both the teams will lock horns in a three-match ODI series. After the T20Is, the four-match Test series will take place.

The pink ball Test is scheduled to be held at Adelaide Oval between December 17-21. This will also remain as the backup venue for the Boxing Day Test, if Melbourne is not able to host it due to Covid-19 restrictions. The final two Tests will be held in Sydney (January 7-11) finally Brisbane (January 15-19).

India T20I squad:

Virat Kohli (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul (vice-captain and wicket-keeper), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd.
