Rohit Sharma’s knock of 80 off 54 deliveries against Kolkata Knight Riders crafted a comfortable win for Mumbai Indians in their second game of IPL 2020. It helped the defending champions reach 195 in 20 overs following which they restricted the Knight Riders to 146. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy skills impressed Virender Sehwag, leading him to call the right-handed batsman as the second-best skipper in IPL.

Virender Sehwag picked MS Dhoni as the best skipper in the history of IPL. It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma leads MS Dhoni in terms of title victories as the former has clinched four titles for the Mumbai Indians under his leadership. As for Dhoni, he has guided Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to three trophies and playoffs in all the editions the franchise played in. Hence, there is always an intense competition between them.

Virender Sehwag stated that he has repeatedly been telling that Rohit Sharma is the best skipper after MS Dhoni in IPL. The former opening batsman revealed getting impressed with Rohit’s tactical changes and his astute response to pressure situations.

“I have always been saying that Sharma is the best captain in this tournament (IPL) after Dhoni. The way he understands the game and makes tactical changes is simply outstanding,” Rohit said in an interaction with Cricbuzz.

In pursuit of a daunting chase, Kolkata lost two quick wickets. However, Nitish Rana and Dinesh Karthik settled and were on the verge of cutting loose. Following the scalp of Karthik in the 11th over, Rohit Sharma brought in Kieron Pollard to bowl the next over that raised plenty of eyebrows. However, the West Indian bowling all-rounder got the wicket of Rana that further dented KKR’s run-chase. Sehwag hailed the move as Rohit thought differently than other captains and stated Pollard did not go for runs that he usually does.

If there had been any other captain in place of Sharma, he would have brought Krunal Pandya to bowl against Rana. Pollard kept the run-flow in check. Had Rohit Sharma used him against a right-hander, he would have conceded more runs. Pollard usually concedes about 25 runs an over, but that did not happen here,” he added.
