It has been a record-breaking and brilliant seven years for Rohit Sharma as the captain of Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians managed to win their fifth title on Tuesday as they beat Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 final in Dubai by five wickets. It was Rohit Sharma’s sixth championship as a player and fifth as captain. And his childhood coach Dinesh Lad is amongst the one backing him to do a tremendous job as the Indian captain.

As Rohit Sharma was successful in defending the title for Mumbai Indians and Virat Kohli experienced yet another unsuccessful year as the skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore, the calls for Rohit to appoint as India’s white-ball leader has increased manifold. It has been coming for quite some time after Kohli has made some questionable decisions for the national team and failed to win an ICC tournament.

Dinesh Lad had a hunch about Rohit Sharma’s leadership qualities from the school days when he used to win matches single-handedly. Lad understands that it is up to the BCCI to take leadership decisions; however, he backs the 33-year old to do an excellent job if given a chance. Dinesh Lad presented the example of Nidahas Trophy when India emerged as champions stunningly.

I had sensed his leadership qualities right from the school days. I remember the time in school cricket, when I had asked him to lead the team, he used to single handedly win games. I cannot say anything on it. It is up to the BCCI and the selectors. If Rohit is given a chance to lead then he will do good as seen in the past when he has captained India in few tournaments like Nidahas trophy, where we have emerged champions,” Lad said as quoted by

“I can’t say Rohit Sharma should be made the captain” : Dinesh Lad

Lad further said that he does not support Rohit to be the skipper; however, the right-handed batsman will prove a point if given the opportunity. He added that Virat Kohli is aggressive while Rohit Sharma captains with a composed head.

I can’t say Rohit should be made the captain. But if he is given (the opportunity), then he also can also prove something. Virat is more aggressive while Rohit is calm and composed. He leads with a cool head,” he added.
