Former Australian speedster Brett Lee was actively involved with the 13th edition of IPL as one of the experts in the dugouts. IPL 2020 concluded on Tuesday as Mumbai Indians convincingly beat the Delhi Capitals by five wickets in Dubai to capture their fifth title. Meanwhile, there were a couple of uncapped domestic players that managed to impress Brett Lee.

Similar to all previous seasons of the extravaganza, IPL 2020 also witnessed some impressive and memorable performances. The international players like Jasprit Bumrah, Kagiso Rabada, KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Ben Stokes, and Pat Cummins did live up to the expectations. However, the lesser-known cricketers did not go unnoticed either.

The IPL, which is a breeding ground for identifying talents out of nowhere, did a tremendous job once more in 2020. There were some unknown and lesser-known players, who made the commentators and experts go awestruck with their performances. With senior players guiding them, they will indeed go further to shape for themselves a bright future.

Brett Lee lauded the IPL 2020 as an incredible sporting event and though he acknowledged that without the fans, it was hard, the best part for Lee was the performances of young Indian players. Lee was mainly in awe of Devdutt Padikkal and Rahul Tewatia while admitting that Delhi Capitals played some impressive cricket and praised the fast bowlers too.

“It has been incredible. It has been hard with no fans, but to me, the best part of this season has been the young Indian players coming through. The Devdutt Padikkals, the Tewatias… We have seen the Delhi Capitals play some really good cricket, so, I will say the fast bowlers too, but I will always say the fast bowlers,” Brett Lee told Star Sports.

Devdutt Padikkal, who earned the emerging player of the award in IPL 2020, was one of the bright spots for Royal Challengers Bangalore in what was yet another inconsistent outing. Padikkal opened the innings for them and piled up 473 runs in 15 games at 31.53 with five half-centuries and maintaining a strike rate of 124. The southpaw played some of the most picturesque strokes in the tournament.

On the other hand, Rahul Tewatia stunned the fans and experts with his all-round performances. Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Steve Smith named Rahul Tewatia one of the silver linings in a season in which they finished at the bottom of the table. Tewatia, who ensured a couple of jailbreaks for the inaugural IPL champions, scored 255 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 139 and picked up ten wickets. He also took a couple of brilliant catches in the competition.
