It was a magical innings from Dinesh Karthik that saved India from the blushes of losing a final to Bangladesh. Courtesy his breezy innings of 28 off nine deliveries, India clinched a nail-biting thriller by six wickets in the last delivery of the match. Captain Rohit Sharma provided a very good start and went onto score yet another half-century. However, his wicket came at a wrong time as India was reduced to 98/4 in pursuit of 167 to lift the Nidahas Trophy.

In the post-match presentation, Rohit said that he decided to hold Karthik back. His decision might have received a huge backlash had India lost the match by a close margin. However, it wasn’t to be as Dinesh Karthik came to be the rescuer of the Men in Blue towards the fag end of the innings. It was a sensational 18th over from Mustafizur Rahman conceding just a solitary run and bagging a wicket.

Karthik came to the crease with India requiring 34 off the last 12 deliveries. The match was tilted in favour of Bangladesh, and it needed a miracle from India to save them from the blushes. Karthik smashed his very first ball for a huge six and followed it up with a four and a six again. From 34 off 12 the equation was reduced to 18 off 9 deliveries, and suddenly the Men in Blue were smelling victory.

He scooped the final delivery of the over straight over the fine-leg fielder to the boundary ropes. With 12 required of the final over, part-time medium pacer Soumya Sarkar was handed over the ball. In fact, there was no other option other than Soumya at that moment. Shakib couldn’t have taken a risk with Mehidy in the final over. In the one over he had bowled in that match so far, the youngster conceded 17 runs.

He bowled a wide to begin the over but bounced back strongly to concede only two runs in the next three deliveries. Vijay Shankar who was struggling till then managed to find the boundary to bring the equation down to 5 of 2. He was dismissed in the penultimate delivery, but with the ball in the air, both batsmen had crossed.

Karthik did a Miandad in the final delivery as he smashed a gorgeous six over the cover region. The celebrations knew no bounds as his teammates greeted him. Skipper Rohit Sharma was overjoyed with the victory. However, he wrote that it was not only Karthik’s innings which was the highlight of the day. Following India’s victory, the famous Indian fan Sudhir Gautam was seen celebrating with a Sri Lankan fan.

Rohit Shared the picture on his official twitter handle and wrote, Apart from @DineshKarthik ‘s heroics and India lifting the trophy, this to me was one of the best moments of the night #SportUnitesUs
