India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma is keen on changing their fortunes in the ICC tournaments, in which they have suffered many heartbreaking moments of late. India were one of the favourites to win the 2019 World Cup in England but were undone by the Kiwis in the semi-final. A heroic knock by Ravindra Jadeja wasn’t enough as the men in blue fell short of ten runs while chasing 240 runs in a rain-affected clash.

The 2019 edition saw the Rohit Sharma slammed five tons on his way to 648 runs, the highest in that tournament. After failing in the crucial game, the opening batsman kept cheering Jadeja to sneak them into the finals at Lord’s. Unfortunately, the all-rounder couldn’t hold his nerves and the Kiwis managed to defeat India.

In an Instagram live session with out of favour batsman, Suresh Raina, Rohit spoke upon the very issue. Raina, who wasn’t part of the 2019 squad, said Rohit’s face was enough to tell how heartbroken he saw his side collapse at the grandest stage. The last time India won a tournament was back in 2013 and since then, they have fallen a step or two short from reaching the zenith.

“I saw your face you were so sad. The way you were playing, it wasn’t easy to score those hundreds in a World Cup. It was heartbreaking for the Indian fans.” Raina said as quoted by Times Now.

The Mumbai batsman opined that it was shattering since there is no better feeling than winning a World Cup. Since they have a world-class side and three upcoming competitions, they must emerge victorious in at least two out of those. Rohit reckons there is a separate emotion colluded with winning World Cups, something that isn’t associated that much with bilateral series.

“It was heartbreaking because there is no better feeling than winning a World Cup. It’s never easy to defeat six teams and lift the trophy by winning the final. There’s a unique feeling to winning the World Cup. You might win or lose bi-lateral series but when you win a World Cup, you feel double happy. Likewise, when you lose, it’s equally disappointing. This is the reason why there are so many emotions attached when you talk about the World Cup. We have the opportunity as there are three World Cups in the near future – two T20 World Cups and one 50-over World Cup. I have said it many time, we should at least win two of those. There will be no complaints if we win all three, but two we should win as we have a good team.” Rohit stated.
