Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians moved to the top of the points table as they eased past Delhi Capitals by five wickets in Abu Dhabi. Suryakumar Yadav and Quinton De Kock struck half-centuries to chase down a tricky total of 163 against a strong Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack. Rohit Sharma, the winning captain of the night, feels pleased by his side’s rich vein of form.

While Mumbai Indians did not make any changes to their eleven, Delhi Capitals triggered two. Delhi Capitals drafted Ajinkya Rahane for Rishabh Pant and brought in Alex Carey to keep wickets, replacing Shimron Hetmyer. The Capitals lost two wickets inside the powerplay; however, Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan did not rest up. They put on 85 together; however, Mumbai Indians bounced back to limit their opponents to 162.

Mumbai Indians made a slow start to the chase, having lost their skipper Rohit Sharma cheaply. Nevertheless, Quinton De Kock counterattacked and put 46 along with Suryakumar Yadav and following De Kock’s departure, Yadav added another 53 with Ishan Kishan. Towards the end, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje kept the match interesting; however, Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya drove their side home.

Rohit Sharma hailed his side’s emphatic performance and felt pleased as the first part of the tournament has come to a close. Rohit Sharma emphasized the importance of one set batter, who could anchor the innings throughout till the victory. Even as Mumbai Indians stuttered slightly towards the end while chasing, the 33-year old lauded their performance over the other franchises. It equally gives him immense confidence in Mumbai Indians chasing any target moving forward.

Means a lot. The kind of cricket we are playing gives us confident going forward. Really pleased how we have played in the first half of the tournament. Perfect day for us. We did everything right today. We bowled really well, then clinical with the bat. Not so much in the end but we will take it. We have always spoken of the importance of one set batter till the end because he knows the conditions. That is one thing we need to tighten. Again I don’t want to go too much into this. Chasing has not been that good this tournament, but the way we did it, it gives us confidence that we can chase any target,”
