Yuzvendra Chahal of Rajasthan Royals (RR), became the 21st bowler in Indian Premier League history to take an hat-trick in an IPL game when his side clashed with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ) in the 30th match of the IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on April 18, 2022.
Rajasthan Royals batted first after Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl. And Jos Buttler just demolished the KKR bowling as he slammed his second century of the ongoing IPL 2022 tournament. He posted 103 in 61 balls with 5 sixes and 9 fours to his name and added 97 runs for the opening wicket with Devdutt Padikkal (24). Sanju Samson added 38 runs as well, as RR registered the highest total in the IPL 2022 until now- 217/5 in 20 overs.
In return, it was only Shreyas Iyer and Aaron Finch whose batting was worthy of writing about in a match that was a high-scoring one. Finch made 58 in 28 balls with 2 sixes and 9 fours to his name. Then Shreyas Iyer came to the party and hit 85 runs in 51 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes to his name, but became part of a historic feat by RR spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who picked up his first IPL hat-trick.
Yuzvendra Chahal Snares Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer And Pat Cummins To Take A Spectacular Hat-Trick
Chahal, in the 17th over, became the 21st bowler to take a hat-trick in the Indian Premier League. After dismissing Venkatesh Iyer on the first ball of the over, Chahal came back strongly and got Shreyas Iyer LBW on the 4th ball of the over. Though the KKR captain took a DRS review, he was found out and walked back.
The next ball saw Shivam Mavi getting caught by Riyan Parag at long-on and Chahal got his hat-trick as he got Pat Cummins stumped by Samson for a first-ball duck and ended his over with 4 wickets and with an overall figure of 5/40, his first fifer in IPL history.
