Australia’s swashbuckling opener, David Warner, has finally opened up about his altercation with Quinton de Kock.
Meanwhile, ICC cautioned both the cricketers and deducted a percentage from their match salary. Australia eventually won the Test to go 1-0 up in the four-match Test series.
Further, ICC deducted 75 percent of his match fees for breaching ICC’s code of conduct. However, he escaped suspension from the second Test.
Warner made it crystal clear he will always defend his family. In additional CCTV footage that surfaced from outside the stairwell, Warner was seen snapping at de Kock.
However, his teammate Tim Paine guided him away.
Further. Paine and Usman Khawaja then helped restrain Warner in the stairwell before Australia captain Steven Smith emerged from the visitor’s dressing room to help suppress his deputy, as the Proteas, featuring a shirtless du Plessis, filed out to see what the commotion was all about.
Warner breaks silence:
Talking about the incident, Warner admitted emotions got better of him at that moment.
However, he didn’t intend to get physical with de Kock.
“I would have liked him to actually say the comment a little bit louder instead of just muttering it under his breath next to Tim Paine and me and then walking up the stairs and saying ‘I didn’t say anything’ as soon as the rest of his team came out,” Warner said.
“At the end of the day, we’re all men and if you’re going to say something you look at someone in the eye and say it,” he added.
Meanwhile, the southpaw dismissed the rumours going around that he mentioned about de Kock’s sister out in the middle.
