Trailing 2-0 in the series, host South Africa will look to go all guns blazing to overturn the fortunes. After a 2-1 win in the Test series, South Africa saw a dip in the form with the change in format.

Ahead of the ODI series, South Africa was badly hurt by the injury of AB de Villiers. Later, their skipper Faf du Plessis was ruled out from the remainder of the series. Du Plessis scored a brilliant hundred in the first ODI; however, it went in vain.

Quinton de Kock is the latest addition to the list of injured players. De Kock was ruled out of the ODI and T20I series with a wrist injury. Heinrich Klaasen is likely to replace de Kock in the upcoming fixture.

South African team management now need to regroup the players, as they take on the top-ranked ODI team. India recently overtook South Africa to be the No 1 ODI team. Senior cricketers like Hashim Amla, JP Duminy, and David Miller need to stand up and take the onus on themselves. The third match will be played in Cape Town, tomorrow.

Here is South Africa’s predicted XI for the 3rd ODI:

Hashim Amla

The right-handed Hashim Amla has been a force to reckon with across the formats. He can score runs at will and can change the fortune of the game in a while.

Amla, who couldn’t get going in the first two ODI’s needs to stand up and play a pivotal role in the absence of de Villiers and du Plessis. Amla is currently the best player of spin in this South African ranks, and he needs to use his skills to perfection the restrict the flourish of India’s young spinning duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.

Markram, who was named as the stand-in skipper in the absence of Faf is likely to open the innings in the absence of de Kock.

Markram, who has played only three ODIs, is yet to get a foothold in this format. A lot will depend on him, as to how he manages the additional responsibility along with scoring runs. He needs to provide South Africa with a solidity in the batting ranks if they want to make a comeback in the series.

Khaya Zondo:

It is a brilliant opportunity for the 27-year old middle-order batsman to cement his spot in the ODI squad. Zondo showed some prospects in his debut match scoring 25 runs.

He looked comfortable against the seamers, however, needs to tackle the spin if he wants to score big. Zondo will aim to continue his domestic run with Titans, that landed him with a national call-up.

JP Duminy:

Having experience on his back, this batting all-rounder needs to come good if South Africa wants to make a return in the series. Duminy was slotted in the squad after his all-round performance for the Cobras.

However, it seems he has lost the touch in the first two ODIs. Duminy needs to contribute to all the departments to provide South Africa with an opportunity of coming back.

David Miller:

The hard-hitting Miller has been a regular feature in South Africa’s limited-overs side. However, he has lacked consistency.

Miller is going through a bad patch and soon needs to find the right touch. He single-handedly can turn things in favuor and can be vital in that middle-order.

Heinrich Klaasen (WK):

Klaasen will slot in place of injured de Kock in the first XI. The wicket-keeper-batsman, who will play his debut game will come from a good domestic performance.

A classical clean hitter of the ball, Klaasen had always combined the disciplines of batting and glovework. He will be eyeing this opportunity to push his case in the national squad.

Chris Morris:

Morris, who has been in and out of the national squad will be keen to cash in on the opportunity. The 27-year old all-rounder needs to step in at a time when the team is missing their star players to cement his place.

A household name in T20 franchise cricket, Morris will be eager to prove his worth for the national team.

Kagiso Rabada:

Rabada has been sensational for South Africa across all the formats since he burst onto the international scene. However, he returned with ordinary figures in the first two ODIs.

South Africa needs this young speedster to be on song if they want to restrict the star-studded Indian batting line-up.

Morne Morkel:

The tall and lanky fast bowler is experienced of the lot, and South Africa needs him to lead from the front. Morkel was not in his usual self in the first two ODIs, and the team management will want him to fire cometh the 3rd ODI.

Lungi Ngidi:

The 21-year old Ngidi riped fruit when he led South Africa to a series win in the second Test with a six-for. Miles to go ahead, Ngidi has already shown prospects for a bright future ahead.

His duel with Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be an interesting battle, as he got the better of Kohli in the Test series.

Imran Tahir:

The veteran leg-spinner will be South Africa’s answer to India’s young spinning duo. However, he has not yet tasted success in this series, as his counterparts from India.

Tahir, who is known to be a match-winner will have to live to his expectations if South Africa wants to restrict India to a cheap score.
