Jasprit Bumrah’s selection in the Test squad for the ongoing series in South Africa was perhaps as unexpected as the world number one Test side’s spectacular capitulation in the first two games. The right-arm pacer, however, did not take long to prove his detractors wrong. The 24-year old castled AB de Villiers to claim his maiden Test wicket in Cape Town and had gone on to pick three important wickets in the second innings.

He did not start the second Test on a good note, going wicketless in the first innings but once again proved his worth by picking up three vital wickets in the second innings. And if those performances were not enough to prove his credentials in Test cricket, then he went on to perform even better in the first innings of the ongoing third Test in Johannesburg.

India had their back against the wall after being dismissed for just 187 but Bumrah along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar made sure that the hosts do not surge too ahead in the game with a superlative bowling performance, picking up his maiden five-wicket haul to help India skittle South Africa for 194.

Bumrah’s first wicket in the game was Faf du Plessis when the latter saw his bails being dislodged after he shouldered-arm an incoming delivery. Bumrah’s next victim was Quinton de Kock when the keeper-batsman edged one behind of the stumps. The India pacer then went on to take the prized scalp of Hashim Amla before dismissing Andile Phehlukwayo and Lungi Ngidi to finish the South Africa innings.

Meanwhile,  Twitter was quick to praise the pacer for his maiden 5-wicket haul. Here are some of the congratulatory messages:
