SA vs WI: Obed McCoy Ruled Out Of South Africa T20Is, West Indies Name Replacement

The 26-year-old West Indies National Cricket Team left-arm seamer Obed McCoy has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against the South Africa National Cricket Team.

Obed Christopher McCoy (subject to medical clearance) was included in the original 15-member squad of the Men In Maroon for the T20I series against the Proteas. However, he is now set to miss the series due to a knee injury.

The West Indies Senior Men’s Selection Panel has named Roston Chase as the replacement for Obed McCoy in the T20I squad for the series against South Africa.

The West Indies tour of South Africa 2023 consists of a two-match Test series, a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series. The ODIs will be played on March 16, 18 and 21 while the T20Is will be held on March 25, 26 and 28.

We want to wish Obed McCoy the best with his rehabilitation programme – Desmond Haynes

In an official statement issued by the Cricket West Indies (CWI), lead selector Desmond Haynes said that Roston Chase is a versatile player. He also wished Obed McCoy the best for his rehabilitation programme and was hopeful of soon seeing him back in action.

“Roston gets an opportunity in the upcoming series as we see him being a versatile player who can be called upon at any stage in the game. We want to wish Obed the best with his rehabilitation programme and hope to see him back in West Indies colours soon,” he said.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is scheduled to commence on March 31 and Rajasthan Royals (RR) would be hoping for the complete recovery of Obed McCoy ahead of the commencement of the T20 league as he is a key player of the side. The Sanju Samson-led side will play their first game on April 2 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
