Former India batting legend, Sachin Tendulkar said the age shouldn’t be a barrier or criteria for selection in the national team.

He felt young players if picked raw can bring fearlessness in the game. Tendulkar who himself made his Test debut at a tender age of 16 stated if someone is good, then he should play for the country.

“If somebody is good, he should play for the country. Age should never the criteria,” Tendulkar was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

The comment would hold significance, as England lately picked Ollie Pope for the Lord’s Test, which begins on 9th August. Moreover, Tendulkar’s statement will have a significant impact on different cricketing boards.

Meanwhile, Sam Curran who is just twenty years old bagged Man of the Match Award in the Edgbaston Test. It goes onto prove that youngsters can come good in the international circuit and if the talent is there they should get included at a young age.

Sachin Tendulkar says it helped him shape his career well to play from the age of 16,

“When I was selected to play my first game (against Pakistan in 1989) I was 16. In a way, it helped. I did not know what it was to play against Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Abdul Qadir. It was possibly the best attack of those times. You will only see one side of the corner, and with experience and maturity you see the other side of the corner to balance things out,” the legend added.

Tendulkar was present at the launch of his cricket academy in association with England Cricket County Middlesex. He advised the young players just to enjoy the game likes he has been doing for several years. Moreover, Sachin Tendulkar has been a role model for a whole generation.

Tendulkar also heaped praises on Virat Kohli. He also backed the other Indian batsmen to come good in the next four Tests.

He added Virat Kohli loves to lead by example and he will keep on doing so in the future matches.
