In the last one decade or so, a host of cricketers have been compared to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Current India captain Virat Kohli is continuously compared to the former India batsman. In fact, any batsman who takes international cricket by storm draws comparison with Sachin Tendulkar at some stage.
The reason is quite obvious. Sachin Tendulkar is the most decorated batsman in the history of the game. No player has played more ODIs and Tests than him, no one has scored more runs than him and no one has more centuries than him. The legendary batsman scored a staggering 34,357 runs across formats, more than 6,000 ahead of the second-placed Kumar Sangakkara. In terms of centuries, he hit 100 in international cricket. In ODIs, he has hit 49 tons while in Tests, he has scored 51 tons.
The one who reminds him of himself:
While over the years, the cricket world has compared a number of batsmen with Sachin Tendulkar, the Master Blaster has now himself revealed the name of the batsman who reminds him of himself. The Indian icon revealed that Australia’s latest batting sensation Marnus Labuschagne reminds him of himself.
He was all praise for Marnus Labuschagne, saying that he was stunned by Labuschagne’s performance on Ashes debut as a concussion substitute at Lord’s last year.
“His footwork was incredible, so he would be the one I would say,” Tendulkar replied, when asked whether any modern-day player reminds him of himself.
“I saw Marnus getting hit (on the helmet by) the second ball he faced from Jofra Archer and post that, the 15 minutes he batted I said ’this player looks special, there is something about him’,” he added.
“His footwork was precise and footwork is not physical, it’s mental. If you’re not thinking positively in your mind then your feet don’t move. So that clearly indicated to me that this guy is mentally strong,” Sachin Tendulkar added while speaking in Sydney after arriving in Australia for Sunday’s Bushfire relief game in Melbourne.
Sachin Tendulkar is a very popular figure in Australia thanks to his stunning exploits with the bat down under. Legendary Don Bradman had famously said that Tendulkar reminds him of himself. Well, the Australians would be hoping that just like Tendulkar, Labuschagne also goes on to become an all-time great.
