Sachin Tendulkar achieved so much in his career that one would like to think that he hardly had any regrets. Sachin Tendulkar loved the game and worked rigorously to earn the distinction of ‘God of cricket’. His was not a regular Mumbaikar story. Sachin Tendulkar was short but he would bully the ‘tallest’ bowlers of the era.

Tendulkar was a nightmare as many bowlers would often refer him. And his numbers justify his status. The 47-year-old continues to be the leading run-scorer in in international cricket with 34, 357 runs — 15,921 in Tests, 18426 in ODIs and 10 from a solitary T20I. He, however,   had two regrets in his career.

Sachin Tendulkar: I have two regrets, the first I never played with Sunil Gavaskar

Sachin Tendulkar idolised former India captain Sunil Gavaskar. They also drew quite a few similarities — both were called ‘little masters’, and contributed to the fore in different eras for the national team and went on to become the legends of the game. If that was not enough, another striking similarity came in their height, both the players were 5 feet 5 inches tall, and came from the city of Mumbai.

“I have two regrets. The first is that I have never played with Sunil Gavaskar. Mr Gavaskar was my batting hero when I grew up and not playing with him as part of a team remains a regret. Mr Gavaskar retired a couple of years before I made my debut,” Tendulkar told cricket.com.

Sachin Tendulkar: Regret not playing against Sir Vivian Richards

West Indies great Viv Richards would terrorize the batsmen, bowlers and on-lookers alike. As he walked into the crease many of his opponents ‘reportedly’ had goosebumps. Tendulkar regrets not being able to play against his childhood hero.

“My other regret is not having played against my childhood hero Sir Vivian Richards. I was fortunate to have played against him in county cricket, but I still rue not being able to play against him in an international match. Even though Sir Richards retired in 1991 and we have a couple of years overlapping in our careers, we did not get to play against each other,” he said.

Tendulkar retired with a long and successful Test career and a century of centuries to his name.
