Former Sri Lanka head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has demanded 5 million dollars as compensation from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after his contract faced a premature end. The governing body terminated Hathurusingha in the wake of Sri Lanka’s poor outing the ICC World Cup in England in 2019.
He took over the reins in December 2017 after stepping down as the head coach of Bangladesh. However, Chandika Hathurusingha failed to make things fall into place as the chief of Sri Lanka team, and they endured a poor run in the World Cup. The Islanders finished sixth with only three wins from nine games failing to make it to the top four.

Chandika Hathurusingha demands massive compensation
Following that, SLC decided to show Chandika Hathurusingha the exit doors. And now, the former cricketer cum coach has demanded an enormous sum as compensation after both sides failed to come to a middle point.
“He has sent a letter of demand asking for $5 million,” board secretary Mohan de Silva told AFP.
As per reports, Chandika Hathurusingha has demanded his full salary for the remaining 18 months of his contract which amounted to a million dollars. He also stated that the wrongful termination tarnished his reputation in international cricket. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket is only winning six months salary as compensation.

Since then, Sri Lanka have witnessed a revamp in their support staffs. Mickey Arthur has taken over as the head coach while former Zimbabwe batsman Grant Flower has joined the setup as the batting coach. On the other hand, Australia’s David Saker was made bowling coach while Shane McDermott will look after the fielding department.
The Islanders will begin their new year when they face a formidable Team India for the three-match T20I series starting January 5 in Guwahati.
