Sameer Dighe quits as Mumbai coach.

Former India wicket-keeper batsman, Sameer Dighe has stepped down as the head coach of the Mumbai Ranji team just after one season in charge.

Meanwhile, a few days back, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) asked all their coaches and selectors had asked whether they were eager to continue with their post. However, Dighe showed no interest to continue citing family problems.

He got back to us today, saying that he’s quitting due to family reasons. His parents aren’t keeping well,” MCA joint secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar told TOI.

Dighe, who played six Tests and 23 ODIs between 2001-02 replaced Chandrakant Pandit, at the end of 2016-17 season.

However, under him Mumbai remained trophyless. Mumbai lost to Karnataka by an innings and 20 runs in the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy.

Moreover, they managed to reach the knockout stages in the limited-overs tournament but failed to go all the way.

They lost to Maharashtra by seven wickets in the quarterfinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Further, they lost out from the Super League stages of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Meanwhile, Mumbai will shortly begin their hunt for a new coach.

We’ll convene a meeting of the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) and ask them to pick a candidate,” Khanvilkar informed.
