The love story of Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik is known to everyone. The India tennis star and the former Pakistan cricket captain had tied the knot in 2010 amid a lot of criticism as people from both the side of the country took shots at them. However, the two love birds had remained unfazed and proved that any border could be overcome with love.

Last year, they were also embraced parenthood for the first time with the arrival of their son Izhaan Mirza Malik. But as previously said, while almost everyone know about how love blossomed between the two and led to a fairytale wedding, very few know how Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik met for the very first time.

Well, in a recent interview, Sania Mirza lifted the lid on her first meeting with her husband. Speaking to India Today, Sania Mirza revealed that she met Shoaib for the first time in Hobart. She also revealed that she initially thought that destiny had a role to play in their marriage. Not only that, she also revealed that Shoaib had actually planned the meeting all along.

“We knew each other socially and then we bumped into each other at a restaurant in Hobart where you don’t even see animals/birds after 6 pm, forget people (laughs).

“Must’ve been destiny that we met over there to be very honest. Only later I realized that he had actually planned to come to the restaurant because I was there. I was giving destiny all the credit but it was clearly not,” she said.

Sania, meanwhile, is all set to make her return to tennis court after an absence of two years. She had taken a leave in 2017 in order to start a family. Prior to taking the leave, Sania won 6 doubles Grand Slam titles. She had also achieved the number one rank in doubles and won a year-end WTA Finale title with Swiss great Martina Hingis. She can make her comeback early next year.

On the other hand, Shoaib Malik retired from ODIs earlier this year during the World Cup. His last appearance came during the loss to India in Manchester. He has not retired from T20Is but has lost his place in the team.
