Sanjay Manjrekar is once again all over the internet for all the wrong reasons. The former India cricketer has a knack of making it to the news for reasons he would love to avoid. More often that not, one sees the fans or any other cricketer taking a shot at the outspoken ex-cricketer-turned-commentator. And he has now found himself in a similar situation.

And the reason behind it is an old tweet of his in which he wrote off Virat Kohli’s chances of doing well in Tests. The tweet was posted by Sanjay Manjrekar on January 6, 2012 when India were touring Australia. The Indian players were under immense pressure after losing the first two Tests heavily. And after the end of the second Test in Sydney, Sanjay Manjrekar had taken to Twitter to write:

“I would still drop VVS & get rohit in for next test.Makes long term sense. give virat 1 more test..just to be sure he does not belong here.

Well, Virat Kohli did not take long to shut down Sanjay Manjrekar. In the very next Test at Perth, he played knocks of 44 runs and 75 runs. He then finished the series with a superb ton in Adelaide and was the only Indian to score a ton in the series as the MS Dhoni-led side lost all the four Tests.

Unsurprisingly, Sanjay Manjrekar is now facing the heat for the same tweet. Virat Kohli is arguably the best batsman in the world right now across formats. He is currently the number one Test and ODI batsman in the world. As of now, he has scored a staggering 7,202 runs in 84 Tests at an average of nearly 55. He has slammed 27 hundreds and 22 fifties.

And with Sanjay Manjrekar’s old tweet doing the rounds on social media again, the commentator decided to respond to one of the re-tweets. He not only defended his old tweet but boldly said that he was glad he and MS Dhoni were on same page as far as giving one more chance to Kohli was concerned.

“Very proud of that tweet. In his 1st year in Tests, after scores of 11,0,23,9 in Aus, I remember, fans/media saying Virat does not belong here & had his neck on the chopping block for the next Test. I said give him 1 more Test to be sure. Glad Dhoni & me were on the same page.?,” wrote Sanjay Manjrekar.
