Sanju Samson Donates Full Series Earning To Groundsmen

The recently-concluded one-day series between India A and South Africa A faced in Thiruvananthapuram faced a number of difficulties due to rain and poor weather. Due to wet outfield and rains, none of the games of the five-match ODI series were a 50-over affair. But thanks to the efforts of the groundsmen, not a single game was abandoned. And in order to acknowledge the contribution of the groundsmen, India A and local star Sanju Samson rewarded the groundsmen by donating his match fee.

Moments after India wrapped up the five-match series 4-1, Sanju Samson decided to contribute his match fee to the laborious groundsmen. Sanju Samson featured in two games in the five-match series. The match fee for one game is`75,000 and thus he has contributed Rs 1.5 lakh.

“We have to give credit to the groundsmen. Because of them, we were able to play. If there was some wetness here or there, then the match officials would not have allowed matches to happen. We really have to thank them. So I have decided to give my match fees to the groundsmen,” Sanju Samson said after the match.

Samson, nonetheless, also starred with the bat in the fifth game. He blasted 91 from just 48 balls to help India A win the game by 36 runs (DLS method). Samson’s knock was studded with 6 fours and seven sixes

The game was reduced to 20-over per side due to rain. Batting first, India A finished on 204 for 4 in just 20 overs thanks to Samson’s whirlwind knock.

India A were off to a poor start and lost opener Prashant Chopra for just two. However, senior opener Shikhar Dhawan (51) and Samson added 135 runs for the second wicket to put the hosts on top. In reply, South Africa were all out for 168.
