Lucks seems to have deserted Sanju Samson in international cricket but the Kerala star continues to impress in the domestic circuit. The right-handed batsman recently earned a call-up from the national team for the series against Bangladesh last month but could not play a single game. It was his first call-up since he was dropped in 2015.

With Virat Kohli rested for the Bangladesh series, it looked like Sanju Samson would get the chance to bat. However, the team-management decided against it and the highly-rated batsman had to warm the bench in all the three games. And as if that was not enough, he was surprisingly dropped for the series against West Indies after Kohli returned to the squad.

But fortunately, he made it to the squad after Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out due to an injury. However, he still did not play a single game. But the setback in international cricket has not affected Samson as he once again showed the team-management he deserves a chance by scoring a fine century in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.

Sanju Samson impresses against Bengal:

Sanju Samson scored a fine century against Bengal at the St Xavier’s College Ground, Thiruvananthapuram to help Kerala recover from a shaky start on day one. Deciding to bat first, Kerala were off to a poor start as they lost their openers Ponnam Rahul and Jalaj Saxena were out for 5 and 9 respectively.

Skipper Sachin Baby and Sanju Samson took the score past the 50-run mark before Ashok Dinda dismissed the former for 10. In-form Robin Uthappa, who had scored a century in the previous Ranji Trophy game, and Sanju Samson then steadied the ship by adding 138 runs for the fourth wicket. Arnab Nandi broke the stand when he dismissed Uthappa for 50.

Samson, on the other hand, went on to make the most of his start and completed his fifty. At the time of compiling this report, Kerala were 212 for 5 with Samson batting on 111.
