Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has picked the better batsman between India stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. While Virat Kohli has arguably been the most consistent batsmen across formats in the last 6 years or so, Rohit Sharma is also one of the leading batsmen in the world at the moment thanks to his impressive exploits in ODIs and T20Is.

In fact, Rohit Sharma pretty much outshone Virat Kohli last year. While the India skipper did not look at his usual best in 2019, Rohit Sharma was class apart. The right-handed batsman had his best year in terms of statistics across formats especially in ODIs. He finished the year as the highest run-scorer in the 50-over format, scoring a staggering 1,490 runs in ODIs including seven hundreds – the most by any player in the calendar year.

He was in phenomenal form during India’s run to the semifinals of the 2019 ODI World Cup, where he finished top-scorer with 648 runs. Rohit Sharma had also scored a record five centuries in the competition. Earlier this year, he was named ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year.

The Mumbai batsman had a revival in Test cricket too when he was promoted to the opening slot during the series against South Africa. He struck two hundreds in his maiden outing as a Test opener before adding a double century to his name in the Ranchi Test. Overall, his 2019 across formats reads 2,442 runs at an average of 53 with 10 hundreds.

Sarfaraz Ahmed picks the better batsman:

Pakistan star Sarfaraz Ahmed believes that Virat Kohli is not only better than Rohit Sharma but is also the best batsman in the world. At the same time, he was all praise for Rohit’s timing with the bat before saying that nobody can match Kohli in the world at the moment.

“In today’s time, there should be no doubt, it is Virat Kohli who’s the world’s number 1 batsman,” Sarfaraz Ahmed told CricTracker. “But, as I have told you before that when I have been behind the wicket, I have felt that although Rohit Sharma does not have that many runs in Test matches, the timing that he has is great. But the number one player in the world is definitely Virat Kohli. Nobody can match him.”
