Just like last year, Kings XI Punjab are once again throwing away their solid start to the season. The Ravichandran Ashwin-led side started the season in a fine manner by winning by winning 4 of their first six games. However, things have not fallen into place for Kings XI Punjab in the second half of the season. In their last six games, Kings XI Punjab have managed just one win. In their last outing, they suffered a crushing loss at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Bowling first, they could not justify their decision as Sunrisers Hyderabad rode on David Warner’s 81 to post a gigantic total of 212 for 6.  In reply, the Kings XI Punjab batsmen came a cropper. Barring KL Rahul who scored 79, none of the other batsmen managed to give a good fight as the Punjab-based outfit finished on 167 for 8.

So with just two games left for Kings XI Punjab now, we take a look at  how Kings XI Punjab will make it to the next round:

Remaining fixtures: vs Kolkata Knight Riders (H), May 3; vs Chennai Super Kings (H), May 5

What will happen if Kings XI win both their remaining fixtures:

Even if they win both of their remaining games, they will not make it to the next round if Sunrisers win both their matches left and Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders.  The one-time finalist could get eliminated on Net Run-Rate even if Mumbai lose both their remaining games and Sunrisers lose to Royal Challengers Bangalore. In that case, multiple teams would get tied on 14 points each and Kings XI’s poor Net Run-Rate will hurt their cause.

What will happen if Kings XI win one game:

In case, Kings XI end up on 12 points, they still can make it to the playoffs. But for that to happen, none of Kolkata, Sunrisers and Rajasthan Royals should win any of their remaining games. But their negative Net Run-Rate can still make things tough for them.
