England fast-bowler believes his country to post a total of 500 in one-day cricket and one cannot really argue the claim. The way England have batted in recent times, they look to break records every now and then. In fact, they have the two highest scores of all time – 481 and 444 – to their names. England had posted both the totals at Trent Bridge where they will take on Pakistan in the third game of the ongoing series on Friday.

In the ongoing series, England have posted in excess of 350 runs in both the games. After the first game was washed out, England posted 373 in the second ODI. In the third, they chased down 358 with more than five overs to spare. Since the end of the last World Cup, England have posted a staggering 36 300-plus totals. Before the 2015 World Cup, England had scored more than 300 on only 34 occasions in their entire cricket history.

“That is a realistic target for our one-day team,” Mark Wood told BBC Sport.

“It’s almost normal to get 350; 400 is easily gettable. We truly believe that we can chase down high scores, no matter what the opposition get.”

Currently, Surrey holds the record for the highest List A total. They had scored an unbelievable 496-4against Gloucestershire at The Oval in 2007.

Meanwhile, a win in the forthcoming game at Trent Bridge will seal the series for England with a match to spare. The hosts, however, will be without their inspirational captain Eoin Morgan. The ICC has suspended Morgan for one game and fined 40 per cent of his match fee for maintaining slow over-rate in the third ODI. In his absence, Jos Buttler is likely to lead the side.

A win in the ongoing series will just be another confidence-booster for England who are one of the firm favourites for the forthcoming World Cup. Currently ranked number one in the world, England will open their World Cup campaign on May 30 against South Africa.
