Cricket can be a cruel game sometimes. One day, it lifts you to the top of the world, and on another day, it lets you down. The latest cricketer to experience it is Sarfraz Ahmed. He was lauded as the best captain when they won ICC Champions Trophy 2017, and after one year, when they lost Asia Cup 2018, he was put on the wrong side of the things. Meanwhile, Shahid Afridi has backed Sarfraz Ahmed to lead Pakistan in 2019 World Cup.
The all-rounder quoted it was the team which made a mistake and fingering out on the skipper isn’t a great option. Meanwhile, he also spoke on Fawad Alam’s selection as well.
Safraz Ahmed should continue as the captain – Shahid Afridi
The Boom Boom of cricket was way too serious in his words when asked about the ouster of Sarfraz Ahmed as the skipper. He questioned that why captain will be the scapegoat when the rest of the team failed to perform.
Meanwhile, he also cited that PCB should state Sarfraz Ahmed so that there would be no confusion on the player, who is leading the team. Afridi tipped Sarfraz Ahmed as the excellent skipper.
As per reports in Geo News, Afridi said on Tuesday, “Pakistan team did not perform well in the Asia Cup but that does not mean the captain should be sacked. Why is it that the loss is always put on the captain’s shoulder? We had a lot of hopes from the team but they did not perform well,” Shahid Afridi said.
“It will be cruel to strip Sarfraz Ahmed from the captaincy on the basis of the team’s performance in the 2018 Asia Cup. This way, there will be no confusion among the players,” Afridi added.
PCB selectors should shut down – Shahid Afridi
The flamboyant cricketer furtherly added saying the selectors should pick the players performing in the domestic cricket. He raised his voice on overlooking Fawad Alam, who has been pretty exceptional in the domestic games.
”If the selection committee cannot pick players who are performing well in domestic cricket then maybe they should shut it down. I am surprised at the decisions taken by the selection committee. Fawad Alam is a good player and he has been performing well. Him not being part of the team is beyond me,” he inferred.
However, it would be interesting to see whether PCB considers the comments made by their superstar. Meanwhile, it is tough to be in the Fawad Alam shoes right now, who is getting ignored on a regular basis.
