Australia batsman Shaun Marsh will spend his 35th birthday along with medical staff after sustaining shoulder injury for his English county side, Glamorgan on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Marsh immediately signalled to the dressing room and favoured his left shoulder (his throwing shoulder). He suffered the injury after diving to stop a boundary in Glamorgan’s T20 match against Sussex in Cardiff.

The support staffs assisted him from the field and will have scans on Monday morning (UK time).

Shaun’s a tough guy, so it’s certainly not a bruise the way he walked off holding his shoulder,” said Glamorgan coach Robert Croft. “So we’ll have to wait and see, but we hope the scan will be favourable to us,” he added.

Cricket Australia will await the results of a medical report from Glamorgan to learn the extent of the injury.

However, they will be desperate for Marsh to get the all-clear, as they’ll rely on him more than ever over the next 12 months. He will be the most experienced cricketer while banned batting trio is out of the side.

The veteran enjoyed his best-ever Test campaign last summer, scoring two crucial centuries in Australia’s Ashes victory.

Marsh has been beset by injuries throughout his career, including chronic back and hamstring problems. Furthermore, he also required surgery on his left elbow in 2014 that kept him out of action for several months.

He has been in some good touch and was Australia’s best batsmen in their winless ODI series against England last month. He notched up two hundred in five games.

Marsh started his stint at Glamorgan with a score of 111 on debut. However, he managed just one half-century from his following six first-class innings.

Australia will be hoping Marsh can return to full fitness ahead of their Test series against Pakistan in October.
