Shikhar Dhawan had a terrible tour of West Indies. While most of his teammates did extremely well with the bat, the senior opener failed to get going. He was making his comeback to cricket through that series after a thumb injury put a premature end to his World Cup campaign. However, Shikhar Dhawan failed to hit the ground running.

He failed to deliver in T20Is as well as the ODIs, managing just 65 runs in five outings. But he recently bounced back to form while making a rare appearance for India A. The left-handed batman scored two consecutive half-centuries for India A against South Africa A. He will now be looking to make the most of his form in the ongoing T20I series against South Africa.

The first match of the three-match series was washed out while the second one will take place on Wednesday. And ahead of the game, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has said that Dhawan is the finest opener along with Rohit Sharma.

“Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are some of the finest batsmen that India has seen, and have proven to be one of India’s best opening pairs. Shikhar Dhawan’s contribution to the game is as important as that of Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli,” Harbhajan said.

“Be it T20 or 50 overs, irrespective of the format, Shikhar is really good. According to me, there is no better opener than Shikhar Dhawan, along with Rohit Sharma, in any format – T20 and 50 overs. If he continues working on his fitness in the coming 2-3 years, I think he will be unstoppable,” he added.

Well, one cannot really argue with Harbhajan for his statement. Dhawan has been one of India’s biggest contributors in the last few years. In fact, he has been India’s best performer in ICC tournaments since the 2013 Champions Trophy. Even in this year’s World Cup, he had scored a sublime ton against Australia before the injury ruled him out.
