Should BCCI Retire MS Dhoni's Jersey No. 7? Fans Reveal Their Choice In Online Poll

Ever since MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday (August 15), several fans as well as cricketers have been saying that the BCCI should retire jersey No. 7 in honour of the former India skipper. MS Dhoni has retired from international cricket as India’s most decorated wicketkeeper-batsman, finisher and captain.

Only time will tell whether the BCCI retires the famous jersey or not but the majority of fans have made their choice clear. In a poll conducted on CricketAddictor, a whopping 76 percent of the fans have said that BCCI should retire MS Dhoni’s jersey number. More than 22,000 votes was cast as the fans revealed their choices.

A day after MS Dhoni retired, India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik stated that BCCI should retire his former teammate’s jersey. A demand has certainly been raised and all eyes are now on the Indian cricket board. The only instance of a jersey being retired in Indian cricket was when Sachin Tendulkar retired.

The batting maestro’s No.10 jersey was retired in 2017, four years after the Master Blaster played his last game for Team India. BCCI had retired the jersey after fast-bowler Shardul Thakur caused an uproar among fans by making his debut sporting the number during the tour of Sri Lanka.

Under his captaincy, Team India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy in addition to winning the Asia Cup and several other tournaments and series.

Under Dhoni, India also moved to the top of the ICC Test Rankings for the first time. As ODI captain, he has won 55 percent of the 200 games he captained the team (110 wins, 74 defeats, 5 tied, 11 NR).  In T20Is, MS Dhoni has a 58.33 win percentage  with 42 victories in 72 games as captain. With the bat, he scored over 10,000 runs in ODIs and more than 16,00 in T20Is.
