Out of favor wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal lashed out at the Pakistan selectors for ignoring him, despite his prolific run in the domestic circuit. The men in green named a 15-man squad for the 3-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which is to be played at their home.

While veterans Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez returned to the shortest format of the game, the think-tank yet again snubbed an in-form Akmal. The 38-year-old stamped his authority in the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2019-20, where he amassed a total of 906 runs in 11 matches at a stellar average of 60.40. He was the second-highest run-getter in the competition. Akmal replicated the same in the Pakistan Super League, where he fetched 357 runs from 13 games.

Kamran Akmal yet again failed to make the cut

Once a seasoned campaigner, Akmal was last spotted in national colors back in 2017 in an ODI against the West Indies. He was dismissed for a first-ball duck in that particular game. Since then, he has been left out in the cold. Akmal questioned the newly introduced system where the management preached to back performers.

“I don’t lose heart but there is a limit. It’s been 5 years, you have brought a new system which will have the best quality, best talent and whoever performs will automatically be considered,” Akmal told Pakistan news channel AAP.

He further went on record and asked the selectors if he should go and play Down-Under or India in order to get noticed. The idea of presenting his case to the ex-Pakistan skipper and Prime Minister Imran Khan crossed his mind as well.

“Should I go and perform in India or Australia to be considered? I am Pakistan’s player, I have been performing since 5 years, how much should I tolerate it? Should I go to the Prime Minister and say this is my performance for 5 years?” said the veteran of 268 internationals.
