Shreyas Iyer was one of the finest captains of the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Delhi Capitals skipper, who was made the captain midway through the 2018 season, led the team from the very front. Delhi Capitals made it to the playoffs ahead of heavyweights like Kolkata Knight Riders or favourites Royal Challengers Bangalore.
It was Delhi’s first appearance in the playoffs since 2012. Shreyas Iyer and Delhi Capitals will be looking to build on the promising season in the last edition. And they will have enough firepower next season to compete for the top prize. The talented side has been bolstered by the addition of Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Both Rahane and Ashwin have ample experience in the league. Delhi Capitals secured their services in the trade window. Rahane was the batting mainstay for Rajasthan Royals since joining them in 2011. In 2012 season, Rahane became the first batsman to hit a century and emerged the leading run-scorer for Rajasthan Royals.

He had also led Royals before being replaced by Steve Smith as the captain of the side last year. Rahane, who played 100 games for the Royals, found some form after the sacking. He scored a century against Capitals and ended the season with 393 runs from 14 games. The Mumbai star will definitely bolster Delhi’s exciting batting lineup.
Ashwin, on the other hand, is a two-time IPL winner with Chennai Super Kings. He plied his trade for Kings XI Punjab in the last two seasons and also led the side. The 33-year old is one of the most consistent performers in IPL since making his debut in 2009. So far, he has picked up 125 wickets from 139 games at an excellent economy rate of 6.79.
No surprises then that Iyer is delighted to have Rahane and Ashwin in the side. The Delhi franchise posted a video in which Iyer could be seen welcoming the two in the team.
