Delhi Daredevils rookie skipper Shreyas Iyer blamed Shane Watson’s LBW decision that didn’t go in his team’s favor for his side 13 runs loss to Chennai Super Kings. Shane Watson was struck on the pads on the first ball.

However, it was unclear whether that ball had struck the pad or the bat first. It was touch and go and the third umpire decided that it was inconclusive to reverse the on-field umpire decision. Thus, he adjudged CSK opener not out.

The ball hit the pad first and then the bat, claims Iyer.

Watson then went on to make a substantial difference in the match. The combative batsman scored a quickfire 78 off just 40 balls. The former Australian all-rounder was also awarded the Man of the Match.

Shreyas Iyer said in the post-match presentation, “Too many runs on the board. I would like to complain about the first ball wicket (smiles). It did not go our way and that could have made a massive impact in the match. The way Watson started it totally changed the game. Not only me, the whole dressing room and obviously you also think the same – that ball hit the pad first and then the bat”.

Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar were the lone warriors for the Delhi side as both of them assisted their team in getting close to the target. Iyer believes that it was a positive sign that they fought until the end. Delhi will have to win all of their remaining matches and Iyer said that they can take it as motivation.

Iyer added, “We got really close and it is a positive going into the next match. We need to win 6 of the remaining 6 matches and that is the only motivation going forward. The team needs to point out the mistakes we have done and we will try to bounce back strong. We will be having a meeting with management regarding the team changes. If we try to keep the team stable, we will do well in the upcoming matches”.

Delhi Daredevils once again have their backs against the wall. Shreyas Iyer led team will have to be at the top of their game to achieve 100% success rate in their remaining encounters. Hence, they cannot afford any more hiccups. Delhi Daredevils will next meet Rajasthan Royals on May 2 at their home ground of Feroz Shah Kotla.
