Shreyas Iyer Stuns Virender Sehwag With His Brilliant Captaincy

Shreyas Iyer oversaw two consecutive sessions for Delhi Capitals which were brilliant compared to their past record. IPL 2019 saw Delhi Capitals reaching the playoffs for the first time in seven years while the capital franchise bettered their record in IPL 2020 by bettering the record by reaching the final.

Delhi Capitals could not put forward the desired performance in IPL 2020 as their top order failed and the team eventually failed to put a challenging total on board. Mumbai Indians, in return, defended their title quite easily as they chased down the target without breaking a sweat.

Former India opener and Delhi Daredevils captain Virender Sehwag said that Iyer has impressed him quite a lot as a captain. He also added that Iyer changed the field and bowling as per the requirement of the side. Sehwag however mentioned that he was initially not happy with Iyer being named as the captain.

“No doubt, Shreyas Iyer has impressed me quite a lot as captain this season. He would make a lot of field and bowling changes which left me quite impressed,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

“When he was made the captain first time, I thought why has he been made the captain, there were other players who could have been made the captain. But the decision made by Ricky Ponting to make him the captain proved to be the correct one,” he added.

Iyer will be next seen in action during India tour of Australia.
