India’s talented batsman Shreyas Iyer will hold the captaincy reins for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy opener. Mumbai will square off with Railways on November 1. The match will take place at Karnali Stadium in Delhi. The right-hand fast bowler Dhawal Kulkarni is named as the vice-captain of Mumbai team. Mumbai Cricket Association had named the 15-man squad yesterday.
Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw could not make the cut into the squad. The Prodigy batsman is currently recuperating from the elbow injury that he suffered while playing in the Deodhar Trophy.
On the other hand, regular players like Akhil Herwadkar, Siddhesh Lad, Aditya Tare have made it to the squad. Iyer has been doing a fine job and will like to continue with his good show in leading his state team. However, there is no doubt Mumbai will miss the services of Prithvi Shaw, who has had a fine start to his career.
Shaw was able to bring his best to the table in the series against Windies. The right-hander had scored 237 runs to be adjudged the Man of the series. Shaw had also scored a fine hundred on his debut to start his career in an emphatic fashion.
Mumbai has always been a giant in the Ranji Trophy and will look to continue their domination in the tournament. Meanwhile, Mumbai will play their second match against Karnataka at KSCA Belagvi Stadium.
Meanwhile, Mumbai is the most successful team in the folklore of Ranji Trophy. Thus, the Mumbai juggernauts will aim to continue their domination in the competition.
