18-year-old Shubman Gill is all over the newsfeed for all the right reasons. The cricketer has a tally of 341 runs in the ongoing U-19 World Cup. Shubman hails from Punjab’ Ferozepur district and belongs to the elegant and hard-hitting club of players. Kolkata Knight Riders picked him for 1.8 crores in the IPL auction and it shows how impressive the youngster has been so far.

He can play the short-arm jab just like Indian skipper Virat Kohli and has scored a match-winning hundred against arch-rivals Pakistan in the semi-finals game recently. He has been hailed as the new ‘Yuvraj Singh’ of Punjab cricket and one man who has followed Yuvraj closely, agrees to it.

Bhajji lauds Shubman’s game

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has shared the dressing room with Yuvraj for ages and he feels that he has seen early signs of greatness in the youngster.”Obviously, the more he plays quality bowling, he will improve. He will play in different conditions, go through phases where he would know how to score runs in difficult conditions. But make no mistake, I have seen 18-year-old Yuvraj Singh from close quarters, Shubman is as talented as Yuvraj,” he points out.

He has all the strokes: Harbhajan

Bhajji stressed on the fact that Shubman can play all kinds of modern-day strokes and that is what keeps him ahead of others.”His biggest advantage is that he has strokes that all modern day players would like to have. He can hit Dilscoop (the lap shot made famous by TM Dilshan), he can hit the ramp shot (guiding over the third man), inside out lofted shot.” he said.

“And the toughest of them all — the pull in front of square. Pulling through deep square leg is not difficult but you need to be tall with supple wrists to keep the ball down while pulling in-front of square. Shubman has that,” Harbhajan added.
