Simon Willis Resigns as the High Performance Manager of Sri Lanka

The high-performance manager of the Sri Lankan cricket team, Simon Willis, resigns from his position with a substantial tenure as a remainder in his contract. Willis bails out in less than two years of the three-year contract.
According to reports, Willis cited out personal reasons for the decision. Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) now plans to bring in a suitable replacement for the coveted position within the support staff. The decision is supposed to be underway.

“Simon has given us six months notice and as such will remain with Sri Lanka Cricket until June 30. We will, therefore, be advertising for the position,” stated a release from Sri Lankan cricket.

Earlier, Sri Lankan Cricket went through a massive exodus of its selectors headed by the chairman Sanath Jayasuriya. Madurasinghe, Kaluwitharana, Gurusinha and many others decided resigned from their positions. The exodus came in the wake of the horrendous Sri Lankan performance at the international arena.

“Sri Lanka Cricket chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya, as well as committee members Ranjith Madurasinghe, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Asanka Gurusinha and Eric Upashantha, have decided to resign. A combined letter bearing the names of the above committee has conveyed this decision to sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara,” Sri Lanka’s sports ministry revealed earlier.
Aravinda de Silva appointed Willis for the role of High-Performance Manager
Former Sri Lankan great, Aravinda de Silva occupied the position of the Chairman of SLC cricket committee. Simon Willis was one of the key recruitments from De Silva. The manager who was scheduled to handle the newly created role of the high-performance manager in June 2015.
Willis had been recruited especially for the newly created role of the high-performance manager in June 2015 to oversee Sri Lanka’s cricket academy, as well play a key role in identifying and developing young talent. His recruitment was spearheaded by Aravinda De Silva – in his then capacity, as SLC cricket committee chairman.
