Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has said that India will find it difficult to win versus Australia when they visit Down Under later this year, due to the return of Steve Smith and David Warner.

The Men in Blue had won their first-ever Test series in 71 years on Australian soil last year when they won the Border-Gavaskar trophy by a margin of 2-1. However, the duo of Smith and Warner did not play for the hosts as they were serving a suspension due to the infamous ball-tampering scandal.

Both these players have now served their respective bans and are now back within the Australian team, and they have looked in good touch as well. Hence, McGrath has given India a warning about the sign of things to come, when they tour Australia later this year.

Glenn McGrath Warns India to be wary of the threat of Steve Smith and David Warner:

The 50-year-old Aussie legend did warn India but also went on to add in his interview that the Men in Blue have past experience of winning in Down Under which could come in handy later this year.

McGrath said, “Australia are playing good cricket. Steve Smith and David Warner — both are playing well and we saw what Warner is capable of in the Australian summer. Having a batsman like Warner back, and a quality batsman like Steve Smith, it’s a totally different game.”

He continued, “…it’s gonna be tougher for India. That’s not to say they they can’t perform well. They have got the confidence of playing in Australian conditions now and they know how to do it.

“They’ve done it and they’ve been successful. So, there’s still enough positives there I think it’s going to be a really good series for sure,” McGrath further added.

The former Australian pacer also lavished praise on Hardik Pandya as he recovered after undergoing surgery and will be in contention to play at the DY Patil Twenty20 Tournament 2020.

“I like Hardik, the way he bowls, bats, his attributes. It is handy to have a player like that,” McGrath said, drawing comparisons with England’s Andrew Flintoff.

India will play a four-match Test series in Australia on their tour of the Down Under later this year.
