Sourav Ganguly Distributes 2,000 Kg Of Rice To Feed The Needy At Belur Math

Sportspeople from India have significantly stepped up during the present time of health crisis. The likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Mithali Raj, and Poonam Yadav have made telling contributions to combat the Coronavirus threat. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly took yet another initiative on Wednesday from his end and went on to distribute rice 2,000 KG among the needy at Belur Math.

Apart from the above initiative, the Prince of Kolkata made several other efforts as well to serve the underprivileged people of our country. Earlier, Ganguly had offered the dormitories and rooms of Eden Gardens as quarantine centres and isolation wards. He requested West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to make use of the available facilities at the stadium. Also, he gave rice worth INR 50 lakh to various camps in government and corporation schools.

The former Indian captain took to Twitter and announced his contribution of grains to the needy people in Belur Math. Ganguly tweeted along with photos as “Visited Belur Math after 25 years..handed over 2000kgs of rice for the needy.” The BCCI also made a monetary addition of INR 50 crore to Prime Minister’s CARES fund.

Due to the global pandemic, several events across all sports have either stood cancelled or postponed. The thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which was earlier scheduled to April 15th is also likely to get discarded. The Coronavirus made the world headlines in late December last year and has killed more than 40000 people across the globe, affecting over 700000. India has in excess of 1600 cases alongside 38 fatalities with numbers increasing exponentially day by day.
