Sourav Ganguly As BCCI President Great Signs For Indian Cricket - Virender Sehwag

Former India opener Virender Sehwag called the appointment of Sourav Ganguly as BCCI’s President as great signs for the Indian cricket. In his tweet, he also wished his former captain, who will take over as BCCI’s President on October 23.

“Congratulations Dada @SGanguly99 . Der hai Andher nahi. Great signs for Indian Cricket. May this stint be an extension of the tremendous contribution you have already had on Indian cricket,” he wrote on Twitter.

Sehwag and Ganguly share a good rapport. It was Ganguly who asked Sehwag to open in Test cricket after there was no spot for him in the middle-order. The punt repaid benefits and Sehwag ended his Test career with 8586 runs, which also includes two double-centuries.

Though he could not become the head coach of Indian cricket in 2017 after an interview with CAC. As per reports, Ganguly also did not want Ravi Shastri to be named head coach but he had the backing of VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar, the other two members on the panel.

Ganguly is the sole candidate in the fray for the top job and will take over the position on October 23. But he will have to leave the job in September 2020. As per Lodha reforms, no official can keep a post for more than six years on the trot. He has been associated with Cricket Association of Bengal for a long time.

Ganguly’s elevation to the President’s post could see him lose Rs 7 Crore, a report in Mumbai Mirror has suggested. While in the office, neither he will not be able to take up media and commentary duties nor will he be able to continue his association with IPL franchise Delhi Capitals. Once he will leave the office next year, Ganguly will be able to perform different roles.

Along with him, Jay Shah and Arun Dhumal will also join BCCI in the capacity of board’s secretary and treasurer, respectively.
