Former India skipper, Sourav Ganguly, an ardent football lover, like thousands of Kolkatans will be rooting for his favourite team, Brazil in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.

However, Sourav also added he would be looking forward to Argentina’s Lionel Messi’s magic. This edition of the World Cup kicks off on June 14 with Russia taking on Saudi Arabia.

I am looking forward to Messi magic. He’s yet to win a World Cup. It’s going to be a big World Cup for him,” said Ganguly, who has plans to watch the finals.

The southpaw, meanwhile, started his career as a footballer and then shifted to cricket. He has always confessed his love for the game and has often taken part in exhibition matches.

Ganguly further picked Brazil, Argentina and Germany as the teams to watch out for in Russia 2018.

“Brazil is my favourite team but I am a Messi fan,” he conceded with a smile.

Ganguly also extended best wishes to Arjun Tendulkar, who recently got a chance in the India U19 squad. The colts will tour Sri Lanka next month to play two four-day games and five one-day games.

Lots of wishes to him. I have never seen him play. I hope he does well,” Ganguly added.

The CAB president also admitted the Virat Kohli & Co are favourites to win the series in England. Ganguly also added if India can continue the momentum from South Africa there is nothing to look back.

I’m very hopeful that India will win in England. The way they have played the ODI series in South Africa, if they are able to hold back the momentum, they will absolutely win,” he concluded.

India will play three T20Is, three ODIs and five Tests in the tour of England beginning July 3.
