Earlier in the day, Proteas skipper, Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first. Australia couldn’t put up a great show, as they lost their first wicket in the third over of the innings. Later, wicket-keeper batsman, Alex Carey tried to contribute in the middle adding 33 runs off 71 deliveries scoring only two boundaries. Meanwhile, the South Africa bowlers did a splendid job to rattle the batting line-up in quick times.

Andile Phehlukwayo was the pick of the bowlers who scalped three wickets, whereas, Dale Steyn, Lungi Ngidi and Imran Tahir bagged two wickets each. However, Australia cricketer, Nathan Coulter-Nile provided some vital 34 runs off 31 deliveries, smashing five boundaries and a six.

Meanwhile, Australia could only manage to score 152 runs losing all their ten wickets at the end of 38.1 overs. While chasing, South Africa gave a solid start scoring 94 runs for the first wicket. The hosts tried all of their bowlers to pick up some early wickets but failed in their attempt. Though Australia managed to make a breakthrough in the 17th over, as de Kock departed scoring 47, they seemed to have lost the game by then.
